ERIC DUNN B.Bus, CPA

Eric completed his Bachelor of Business, majoring in accounting in 1988 the same year he commenced at Blackburn Lazer. After working for three years, Eric took sabbatical leave and traveled throughout North America, Mexico, and Europe before finally settling in London where he worked with Glaxo Pharmaceutical as a management accountant before returning home to Melbourne.

Eric specializes in working with small and medium businesses focusing on their business and financial management, future planning and statutory requirements. Eric was admitted as a director of the firm in 1999. He is married with two young children and enjoys most sporting pursuits.

PHILIP HII B.Comm., M. App. Fin., CA

Philip joined Blackburn Lazer in March 2003, as the Business Services Manager. He is involved in the management of the compliance business of Blackburn Lazer and professional development of our junior and graduate team members. Philip had commenced Public Practice since 1998, after completing a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting and Finance) at the University of Melbourne, and previously had been working in small to second-tier Chartered Accounting Firms at Senior and Supervisory levels. In February 2008, Philip was admitted as a director of the firm.

Philip has obtained valuable experience in areas of general accounting and tax advice for small and medium sized business including business structures and tax planning, assisting businesses with their computer network systems and computerised accounting systems, superannuation advice and superannuation audits. He has exceptional skills with computer systems and can generally resolve complex technical problems.

He is married with two children and enjoys many sports and outdoor activities.

DEBORAH GRINTER B. Bus (Accounting). CPA

After completing a Certificate in Business Studies - Accounting in 1980, Debbie commenced her career as a Financial Accountant working for a subsidiary of Coles Myer preparing cash flow forecasts and weekly sales reports based on segments, reporting to division managers. She then took on a position for a manufacturing organisation which involved the implementation their computerized job costing and accounting system. After a period of time Debbie undertook further studies and commenced her Bachelor of Business Studies Accounting. While working and studying, she engaged in new role as Financial Accountant for a small Engineering Business, whereby she was exposed to all facets of Management Accounting including preparing monthly financial reports, payroll, budgets, and following up Debtors. This provided Debbie with the hands on working experience in a small to medium sized business.

After deciding to concentrate on full time study Debbie commenced part time work with the newly created Blackburn Lazer Pty Ltd in 1987. She then took sabbatical leave, and operated a small retail franchise, before she re-joined Blackburn Lazer Pty Ltd in February 1997. She has a Bachelor of Business Studies- Accounting and has completed the CPA Program. Debbie has gained varied experience working with small to medium business, and she has a keen interest in Taxation after over thirteen years at Blackburn Lazer. Debbie was admitted as a partner in April 2010.

She is married with two boys and enjoys keeping fit, travel and spending time with family and friends.

RODNEY BLACKBURN B.Ec. CPA
Consultant

Following graduation from Monash University, Rod worked in a variety of industries including food manufacturing, process and discrete manufacturing, importing and distribution, mining, legal and professional services. This included four years with Hamersley Iron during the resources boom of the early 1970's, where he was able to develop and hone his business and analytical skills and learn advanced management techniques whilst implementing the use of computers in forward planning and cash flow management.

Rod worked at Rosella, a division of Unilever, for three years as a management accountant. He was exposed to such diverse industries as detergents, ice-cream, cosmetics and transport. Unilever, as one of the largest companies in the world, is renown for its quality of marketing, management development and control methods. Rod left Unilever to utilise the experience gained with the large companies and use it as an independent accountant and management consultant. He designed and installed computer systems in manufacturing, distribution and legal services and consulted to many businesses, including his former employers.

The control of twenty Data Processing professionals as Consulting Director led to consulting assignments with an associated accountancy practice where his experience led to considerable success in assisting the recovery of declining businesses. He further developed his expertise in the area of computerised financial modeling and eventually joined the practice.

He became a Partner in Public Practice in 1982, and was joined in 1987 by Bob Lazer in setting up Blackburn Lazer Pty Ltd creating an environment that allowed him to apply his expertise and knowledge in an efficient, modern business practice, employing the highest level of technology and support for business. In April 2010, Rod resigned as a Director, but remains as a valuable employee to Blackburn Lazer, as a Consultant focusing on providing high level management consulting services and marketing strategies - two aspects of work which he still continues to enjoy.

Rod is married and has three boys, enjoys his sailing, is an avid sports fan and a model railway and rose growing enthusiast.
